UPPER VALLEY? HOW A NEWSPAPER WAR CREATED A VIRTUAL STATE IN WESTERN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND EASTERN VERMONT

Learn how the term "Upper Valley" came to be and how the term became a name for a cluster of towns that are connected in many ways, even though divided by a river and a state line. Deepen your understanding of this history and its relevance to contemporary social and cultural life in the region. 

Steve Taylor is a lifelong scholar of New Hampshire (and Vermont!) agriculture and rural life. He has been a daily newspaper reporter and editor, freelance writer, dairy farmer and for 25 years served as New Hampshire’s commissioner of agriculture. He was the founding executive director of the New Hampshire Humanities Council and in recent years has been an active participant in its Humanities to Go program.
