As part of our Collections Room transformation, for the foreseeable future our work parties will focus on creating finding aids. A finding aid is a descriptive tool that helps researchers locate and access materials within an archival collection. It serves as a comprehensive guide that provides context, organization, and detailed information about the contents of archival materials.
Finding aids serve multiple purposes:
- They help archivists manage and preserve collections.
- They assist researchers in determining if a collection contains relevant materials before visiting.
- They guide users to specific items within potentially large collections.
- They maintain the context and relationships between materials
We invite anyone who is interested to help regardless of whether you can spend a few minutes with us or participate on an ongoing basis as a member. Contact us at wvha1777@gmail.com if you’d like to know more.
