As part of our Collections Room transformation, for the foreseeable future our work parties will focus on creating finding aids. A finding aid is a descriptive tool that helps researchers locate and access materials within an archival collection. It serves as a comprehensive guide that provides context, organization, and detailed information about the contents of archival materials.
Finding aids serve multiple purposes:
They help archivists manage and preserve collections.
They assist researchers in determining if a collection contains relevant materials before visiting.
They guide users to specific items within potentially large collections.
They maintain the context and relationships between materials
We invite anyone who is interested to help regardless of whether you can spend a few minutes with us or participate on an ongoing basis as a member. Contact us at wvha1777@gmail.com if you’d like to know more.
